Critical micelle concentration of eicosaethylene glycol hexadecyl ether

  • Original language description

The first and the second critical micelle concentrations (CMC) of eicosaethylene glycol hexadecyl ether in aqueous medium have been determined on the basis of surface tension measurements. The effect of temperature has been investigated in the temperature interval 24 to 38°C. Both CMCs decrease with increasing temperature. The temperature dependence of the Gibbs energy of micellization has been described by linear equation. The influence of addition of ethanol, 1-propanol, 1-butanol, 1-pentanol, 1-hexanol, and 1-heptanol on CMC values has been examined. The first CMC rises with rising alcohol concentration, whereas the dependence of the second CMC on alcohol concentration displays very slight decreasing trend (nearly within the experimental errors).
