Mathematical modelling of ethanol catalytic oxidation in a monolith reactor
Original language description
The actual trend is to replace at least a part of traditional fossil fuels with compounds obtained from renewable sources. This would reduce the world's demand for fossil oil. Ethanol meets the needs of the fuel market quite well. It can be easily produced from biological waste and can be used in combustion engines with only little modifcations. However, ethanol and products of its oxidation (i. e. acetaldehyde) influence the exhaust gas composition. In this work we propose a mathematical model of a monolith converter and a global kinetic model of the catalytic processes. We also compare the simulation and experimental results.
