Modelling of an oxidation catalyst operated with biofuel
Original language description
Biological waste can be efficiently processed to produce biofuel (i. e. ethanol) for combustion engines. Because mixing of ethanol and conventional fossil-based fuels influences exhaust gas composition, it is necessary to study how it affects the catalytic system in the exhaust tract. This work focuses on mathematical modelling of an oxidation catalyst coupled to an engine operated with ethanol biofuel. Ethanol oxidation and NOx selective catalytic reduction (SCR) is studied on an industrial Pt/Al2O3 catalysts with varying noble metal loadings. Acetaldehyde (a product of ethanol partial oxidation) formation and decomposition is also considered.
