Trickle-bed reactor and rotating biological contactor: application for textile dyes decolorizations
Original language description
In this work two types of biofilters for decolorization of textile dyes by an immobilized white-rot fungus were constructed: a trickle bed reactor and a rotating biological contactor. In the trickle bed reactor new mycelium carrier arrangement was tested- a block of Filtren TM foam in a form of cylindrical block with parallel holes. Decolorization of the RBBR dye achieved with this arrangement is compared to support materials used in previous works (Filtren TM particles and special particulate materialfor water filtration). New mycelium carrier yielded superior results: 100 mg/l of dye was decolorized during 6 hours, and no plugging of the system by abundantly growing mycelium occured during 2 months of biofilter operation. In the rotating biologicalcontactor, its ability to decolorize different initial concentrations of RBBR and the effects of rotation speed on decolorization were tested
