Anomalous diffusion of pentane in polystyrene
Original language description
This work focuses on results of video-microscopy observations of polystyrene (PS) particles during their impregnation by pentane and several techniques of foam morphology investigations, including AFM and X-Ray tomography techniques. Foaming experimentswere intentionally conducted at conditions of incomplete impregnation of PS particles, so that resulting foam particles have compact core. The goal of this contribution is to decide whether the diffusion of pentane in polystyrene is the Case II. diffusion or not. Morphology of foam particles with compact cores and video-microscopy observation of diffusion fronts suggest that the Case II. diffusion is the dominant mechanism of pentane transport in PS. However, previous gravimetric measurements of the dynamics of pentane sorption in PS do not confirm this conclusion. But the measured samples in these older measurements had a wide distribution of PS particle sizes. Nevertheless, this contribution includes new results of sorption measuremen
