Tomographic reconstruction of porous polyolefin particles

  • Original language description

This contribution addresses several problems associated with morphology of porous polyethylene and polypropylene particles produced in catalytic gas- and liquid-dispersion reactors. The first addressed problem is the digital reconstruction of polyolefinparticles from X ray micro-tomography images. The second problem is the dynamics of diffusion of penetrants away from the polymer particle because this process is crucial for the post-polymerization processing of the polymer. This dynamics of particle degassing is measured in the laboratory. In porous polyolefin particles with broad distribution of solid polymer zones the degassing curve cannot be approximated with simple Fick?s diffusion from compact spherical particle. Here we describe examination ofthe internal porous structure of polyolefin particles by scanning electron microscope with built-in X-ray tomography attachment (Micro-CT for SEM from SkyScan company). Polyolefin particle morphology is formally represented by the spatial
