A Road Traffic Model with Overtaking: Continuation of Periodic Patterns Using Symmetry

  • Original language description

The classical microscopic follow-the-leader model of a road traffic may collapse in finite time due to a car collision. In order to avoid the collision, the natural action of a driver would be to overtake the slower car. We proposed a simple model of overtaking assuming a circular road. The model is a piecewise-smooth dynamical system. In the previous work, we have identified several emph{oscillatory patterns} with temporal or spatial-temporal symmetry. In the present contribution we use the symmetry to simplify defining equations of the patterns and continue the patterns with respect to the length of the track $L$.
