Characterization of hetero-phase polymers by TD-NMR
Original language description
NMR apparatus used in our experiments is not a classical NMR spectrometer for measurement of high-resolution spectra of 1H or 13C chemical shifts, but belongs to the class of spectrometers with resolution in the time-domain (thus the acronym TD NMR). TDNMR spectrometer measures the time-evolution of the NMR signal and characterizes this evolution by relaxation times (e.g., T1 and T2 times). In order to obtain relaxation times, one has to conduct well-selected pulse experiments. The obtained relaxationdata can be rather empirically than rigorously correlated with physical properties and sample composition, e.g., with viscosity, or phase content in hetero-phase polymers. No special preparation is required for liquid and solid samples used in TD-NMR measurements. Here we briefly describe the methodology of measuring and processing of TD-NMR signal. Our experience with TD-NMR is illustrated on examples of both well-defined simple samples and complex samples of polymers with hetero-phase
