Styrene-butadiene rubber (SBR) is a synthetic elastomer with a wide range of industrial applications, mainly as an essential component of car tyres. This contribution describes the dynamic mathematical model of SBR production by the cold emulsion polymerization proceeding at temperatures between 5 and 10°C in the cascade of up to twelve continuous stirred tank reactors. The model is validated by the plant data and allows the prediction of the crucial product properties, such as Mooney viscosity and thecopolymer composition. Model equations are represented by the differential and algebraic equations, the reaction mechanism of styrene-butadiene copolymeration was processed by the population balance of the moments of chain length distribution (CLD). Polymer particle size distribution is obtained by independent model based on the Monte Carlo simulation of the growth of statistical set of polymer particles.
