Morphological descriptors for characterization of heterophase polymers
Original language description
This work describes methods for mapping and evaluation of morphology of heterophase polymers, particularly of high impact polypropylene (hiPP), which consists of porous matrix from isotactic polypropylene (iPP) and of soft ethylene propylene random copolymer (EPR = ethylene propylene rubber) built in the pores of this matrix. In this contribution we describe principles of five morphological descriptors: (i) domain size distribution, (ii) autocorrelation function, (iii) distribution of distance transform, (iv) lineal path distribution and (v) covering radius distribution. These descriptors were employed for characterization of the size and partially also shape of EPR domains in hiPP particles. We also discuss the limitation of some descriptors application in the case of anisotropic morphology and percolated phases.
