TD-NMR as a powerful tool for hetero-phase polymer studies
Original language description
Time-domain NMR (TD-NMR) is a low resolution alternative to classical NMR. It is not suitable for structural analysis, but has many other uses. This contribution presents the use of T1 and T2 time constants, direct signal fitting and gradient methods forhetero-phase polymer studies. The time constants are physical properties of the sample and can provide valuable information, which is demonstrated on the dependence of T1 on the viscosity of a polymer solution and on the T1 values of various polymer emulsions. Direct fitting of signal enables the estimation of component content, which is demonstrated on copolymer content in high-impact polymers and crystallinity of polyolefins. The magnetic field gradient based methods enable to estimate diffusion coefficients and domain sizes on the nanometer scale.
