Oxygen transfer rate in rotating biological contactor and its application for textile dye decolorization
Original language description
This study focuses to determination of the oxygen transfer rate from the air to the liquid in a rotating biological contactor (RBC) and to its application in decolorization of textile wastewaters using the immobilized white rot fungus Irpex lacteus. Twogeometrically similar RBCs were used. The small RBC contained only a single polyether foam disc, the large RBC, exhibiting substantially higher value of a ratio of the discs surface to the liquid volume, included 12 discs. The oxygen transfer rate was measured by kinetic method at different rotational speeds. To determine overall volumetric oxygen transfer rate coefficient (kLa) a mathematical model was used, which was fitted to experimental data. A continuous decolorization experiment with the azo dyeReactive Orange 16 (RO16) was carried out in the large RBC too.
