Circular Dichrosim Spectroscopy
Original language description
Chiroptical spectroscopies are a useful tool with applications in absolute configuration determination, in conformational analysis, in the investigation of supermolecular organization and in high sensitivity studies of spatial arrangement of nearly any chiral system. These methods, circular dichroism (CD) spectroscopy and optical rotatory dispersion (observed as optical rotation if the experiment is carried out at a single wavelength) are chiral variants of absorption spectroscopy and refractive index measurement. The information about structure is encoded in the positions, signs and magnitudes of spectral bands. Electronic and vibrational circular dichroism spectroscopies are complementary. While the technique of electronic circular dichroism tends tosee the molecule as a whole and provides chiral information via chromophores and their properties, vibrational circular dichroism is a more local phenomenon. As a rule, each bond in the molecule is a vibrational chromophore and we can ge
