Remote control of reaction and diffusion processes inside microparticles
Original language description
Many scientists deal with a problem of targeted delivery of drugs nowadays. Some of these substances are not very stable, so their synthesis ?in situ? is needed. Control of reaction and release of products requires complex system, using more chemical species and compartmentalization. Our particle is generally a small alginate gel droplet embedding internal compartments and other components. Liposomes play a role of the internal compartments, because permeability of their membrane could be greatly modified by temperature. Alginate beads also contain magnetite nanoparticles so heat can be generated inside the particles by high-frequency magnetic field. Surface of the whole system is covered by several nanometers thin silica layer that provides rigidity and possibility of modification by specific receptors (targeting). Utilizing our system, we were able to remotely control a biochemical reaction between enzyme laccase and its substrate ABTS. The substrate was loaded into thermo-sensitive
