Original language description
We present a methodology for the fabrication of core- shell microparticles (alginate gel core with immobilised compartments and permeable silica shell) as a controlled delivery system. While the alginate is a suitable material for the encapsulation and immobilization of bioactives (e.g. liposomes, enzymes, proteins), silica shell provides the mechanical and chemical protection, can regulate diffusion into and out of the internal volume, and gives a possibility for further surface functionalization e.g.to achieve selective adhesion.
