  • Original language description

    We present a methodology for the fabrication of core - shell microcapsules (alginate gel core with permeable silica shell) as a novel controlled delivery system. While the alginate is a suitable material for the encapsulation and immobilization of bioactives (e.g. liposomes, enzymes, proteins), silica shell provides the mechanical and chemical protection, can regulate diffusion into and out of the internal volume, and gives a possibility for further surface functionalization e.g. to achieve selective adhesion.
