Quantifying the effect of filler particles presence in needle-shaped particles packing on particles breakage behaviour
Original language description
In the present work, the unidirectional compaction and breakage of needle-shaped particles mixed with filler particles within a randomly packed bed has been simulated using the Discrete Element Method (DEM) technique. The evolution of particle size distribution with increasing compression stress has been studied for different sizes and volume fractions of filler particles inside the packing. Preliminary results of parametric study show that the incidence of breakage events during compaction can either increase or decrease with increasing size of filler particles, the behaviour depending on filler particles volume fraction present in the packing.
