Preparation and performance of multi-layer Lean NOx trap catalysts
Original language description
Lean NOx trap (LNT) catalyst is an effective tool for removal of nitrogen oxides (NOx) from automotive exhaust gas. The NOx are stored on the active sites of the LNT and released and reduced when the storage capacity is fulfilled. The process is controlled by periodical changing of the air/fuel ratio. The LNT needs to be combined with other types of catalysts, e.g. an oxidation catalyst (DOC) for conversion of CO and hydrocarbons or a particulate filter. Due to spatial and economical reasons there is aneffort to combine catalysts with different functions in a single monolith reactor, the walls of the monolith being coated with multiple layers of catalysts. However, when the porous layer is too thick, the overall efficiency is influenced by diffusion limitations. Whereas the chemical formulations of the catalysts have been finely tuned by the manufacturers, the role of the transport has not been fully investigated. This work is focused on preparation of model LNT catalysts coated on fl
