Temperature dependence of water deoxygenation rate using sodium sulfite

  • Original language description

Water deoxygenation is an important step in preparation high-quality industrial water. The oxygen removal prevents corrosion of technological equipment and piping. Another area, where deoxygenated water is required, is mass transfer efficiency determination of aerators and other gas-liquid contactors. Especially for continuously operated apparatuses, such as jet loop reactors, liquid cannot be directly recirculated in the lab scale and in-line deoxygenation is necessary. Chemical removal of oxygen lookslike a promising alternative to conventional methods such as desorption column. Chemical method is relatively simple in terms of required additional equipment. Catalyzed oxidation of sodium sulfite is a feasible reaction to obtain sufficient quantitiesof deoxygenated water for these purposes. The reaction kinetics had been presented before, but data of activation energy of the reaction are scarce. The activation energy was determined using plug flow reactor where the reaction kinetics
