The chapter provides an overview of the functional principles used to moisture measurement in gases and solids. The chapter describes the following groups of hygrometers for humidity measurement in gases: psychrometric hygrometers, sorption hygrometers (change in volume or length, resistance, capacitance, resonant frequency), condensation hygrometers, coulometric hygrometers. For the measurement of moisture in solids are described the following methods: chemical and gravimetric methods, electrical methods (resistance and capacitance measurement), spectrometry (IR absorption and reflection, microwave spectroscopy), nuclear magnetic resonance, neutron moderation method and time domain reflectometry. Examples of using different types of hygrometers in in various industrial sectors are listed.
