KLa determination accuracy when gas holdup measured inaccurately
Original language description
Interfacial mass transfer controlled-processes are crucial for many of products in chemical industries. For the processes performed in mechanically agitated vessels with the gas-liquid mass transfer rate as the controlling factor, the volumetric mass transfer coefficient, kLa, becomes the indispensable parameter. The volumetric mass transfer coefficient is commonly predicted on the base of literature correlations. However, many of the correlations have their limits due to specific geometry characterisations (e.g. the vessels or the ratio between diameters of vessel and impeller) or due to the basic data distortion measured by inappropriate methods. Despite this fact, the correlation based on the data measured by the Dynamic Pressure Method (DPM) was proved to be physically correct at wide range of operating conditions. One of the key factors for obtaining fairly accurate kLa data is the selectivity of their evaluation on the gas holdup, ????G.
