Original language description
The altarpiece from the Provost's Church in Roudnice nad Labem is one of the most important monuments of Czech painting of the Late Beautiful Style (Figs. 1, 2). This fact is also confirmed by the considerable attention devoted to this work since the middle of the 19(th) century. The results of the analysis of style and iconography led researchers in the second half of the 20(th) century to the conclusion that this is a work from the second decade of the 15(th) century, which has strong retrograde traits and is linked to Italian-Byzantine models evidently intermediated by Italianate Bohemian painting from the middle of the 14(th) century.
