    Wireless Performance Capture Device

    A new performance capture device with full processing pipeline that allows to record and process actor's performance in 3D and outputs a sequence of 3D meshes which include time-varying information about actor's shape and appearance. A key advantage of our new approach as compared to other concurrent systems is that our performance capture device is entirely wireless and thus easily transferable with minimal preparation time. Our system is also robust to illumination changes. Therefore, there is also no specific requirement for particular lighting conditions. All those properties make our system perfectly suitable for casual performance capture in various indoor as well as outdoor locations. A basic hardware setup consists of eight GoPro Hero 5 cameras mounted on stable tripods. Those cameras are synchronized using custom audio synchronization module and operated remotely using an application running on a mobile phone. This setup ensures that during the capture cameras remain untouched which is essential to retain their original calibrated position. For this hardware, we developed end-to-end processing pipeline running on a PC which includes a wireless transfer of recorded sequences, camera calibration, video analysis, reconstruction of a 3D point cloud, conversion into a mesh, and fusion of appearance from multiple viewpoints.
