Comments on Volcano Curves and Electronic Factors in Catalysis by Metals.

  • Original language description

A correlation of the catalytic activity with adsorption heats of reactants has been fraquently used in attemps to rationalize both the selection of single metal catalysts and the construction of bimetallic (alloy) catalysts (1-7). The physics behind thiscorrelation has already been formulated long ago by the Sabatier principle(1-7), claiming that the catalyst surface has to be appropriately covered by reactant molecules pertubed to an optimum degree by the interaction with the catalyst surface.
