Biodegradation of PCBs in real contaminated soil - the effect of plants and rhizosphere microorganisms.
Original language description
In liquid medium and in pot experiments with real contaminated soil, we have shown that indigenous bacteria are able to degrade PCBs in presence of compounds of plant origin. Plant species were capable to accumulate PCBs from soil and transport them to the roots, stalk and leaves. Decrease of PCB content by 30% was shown in soil vegetated with tobaco inoculated with mycorrhizal fungi.
