The natural stilbenoid pinosylvin and activated neutrophils: effects on oxidative burst, protein kinase C, apoptosis and efficiency in adjuvant arthritis
Original language description
The effects of the naturally occurring stilbenoid pinosylvin on neutrophil activity in vitro and in experimental arthritis are reported. Pinosylvin significantly decreased the formation of oxidants, both extra- and intra-cellularly, and effectively inhibited protein kinase C activation. Pinosylvin administration decreased the number of neutrophils and significantly reduced the amount of reactive oxygen species in blood. Pinosylvin, as an effective inhibitor of neutrophil activity, is potentially usefulas a complementary medicine associated with medicaments prescribed for treating persistent inflammation.
