Original language description
We have identified steroid-quencher probes with affinities in a range of hundreds of nanomolar for muscarinic receptors. These results can serve as a basis for further studies such as molecular modeling and site-directed mutagenesis to locate the cholesterol-binding site. Targeting the cholesterol-binding site or interfering with the action of cholesterol or steroid hormones at muscarinic receptors represents a new approach in the pharmacotherapy of pathologies associated with altered muscarinic signalling.
