The international workshop organized by the Alchemies of Scent project (Institute of Philosophy, CAS) in collaboration with the Institute of Organic Chemistry and Biochemistry brought together chemists, historians, perfumers, and botanists to explore connections between ancient Greco-Egyptian perfumery and modern fragrance chemistry. The two-day event featured lectures by Philip Kraft and Johannes Panten (Symrise, Germany) and experimental sessions presenting the method of recreation of ancient perfumes by the Alchemies of Scent team. Participants discussed the scientific and cultural implications of scent reconstruction and its contribution to understanding the history of chemistry and sensory experience. It was supported by the Czech Science Foundation, the Society for the History of Alchemy and Chemistry, and IOCB Tech Foundation.
