Traits and consequent fate of yeast cells are determined by their position within the colony
Original language description
olony diversify to central aging cells containing high activities of stress-defence enzymes Ctt1p, Sod1p and Sod2p and plasma membrane HATPase Pma1p and to peripheral cells containing high amounts of proteins of adaptive metabolism (e.g. Pex11p, Cta1p, Cit3p, Icl2p, Ato1p, Ato2p and Ato3p). This leads to their dissimilar fate, i.e. to good fitness of the cells located at colony margin and to the progress of regulated dying of some central cells providing nutrients to healthy outer cells
