Lysates from bacteria contain low-molecular weight chemical entities expressing immunostimulatory functions. The major contributors to the overall mmunomodulatory effect are molecules with the molecular weight lower than 3 kDa. They are present in both Gram-negative a Gram-positive bacterial species.
