Electric and nuclear transition strength in 30,32-Mg.
Original language description
The charge and mass transition matrix elements of the neutron-rich isotopes 30,32-Mg have been extracted from inelastic scattering on 208-Pb and 12-C targets at 32 A MeV. The measured inelastic cross sections for the first 2.sup.+ states were compared tocoupled-channels calculations, which take into account the feeding from higher excited states. The method was tested with 24-Mg inelastic scattering data obtained in the same experiment. In the framework of therotational model, the charge and mass deformations are identical and large (/.beta./.appreq.0.5-0.6) for both isotopes.
