The influence of processing temperature and the starch content on the microstructure and mechanical properties of SiOC foams
Original language description
The SiOC foams were prepared from polymethylphenylsiloxane resin (commercially known as L901 resin) and a commonly available starch as a foaming agent. A set of specimens of various starch content and the processing temperature to find the optimum combination and as well as the dependences allowing tailoring of materials were prepared. The optimum amount of starch was elaborated at the temperature of 230 °C and the amount of the starch varied from 0.7 up to 2.2 wt%. The specimens were processed at the temperature range from 220 to 250 °C with the step of 10 °C to observe the influence of temperature on the gas evolution and therefore the structure development of foam for constant amount of foaming agent at the level of 2 wt/%. Theoretical and relativefoam densities were calculated based on the known bulk SiOC density after pyrolysis (1.8 g
