Conductive films cast from highly stable PEDOT and PEDOT/silver colloidal dispersions
Original language description
Highly stable poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) (PEDOT) and PEDOT/silver colloidal dispersions were synthesized through single-step oxidative polymerization. Water-soluble polymers, poly(N-vinyl pyrrolidone) and poly(vinyl alcohol), were used as steric stabilizers and iron(III) nitrate and silver nitrate were used as oxidants. The formation of PEDOT long conjugated chains was confirmed using UV–visible and Raman spectroscopies. The incorporation of silver nanoparticles into PEDOT was verified with scanning and transmission electron microscopies and UV–visible spectroscopy. The effect of stabilizer and oxidant types on PEDOT particles' size, morphology, conductivity and wettability were studied. The AFM analysis of drop-cast films of the PEDOT colloids reveals homogeneous films with varied topographies. The PEDOT films prepared with poly(vinyl alcohol) and iron(III) nitrate showed the highest electrical conductivity of 0.95 ± 0.07 S cm−1.
