Inactivation of Escherichia coli by surface streamer discharges(HAKONEXIV)

  • Original language description

Předneseno na:HAKONEXIV,Greifswald,Inactivation of Escherichia coli using non-thermal surface dielectric barrier discharges (SDBD?s) was widely studied; however, the complete mechanism of plasma-assisted inactivation is still not known. We investigated processes involved in the plasma-assisted inactivation with a particular emphasis on how microorganisms response to plasma-induced stress. The single streamer filament SDBD was produced in coplanar electrode geometry and driven by amplitude-modulated AC high voltage waveforms in humid synthetic air at atmospheric pressure. The response to plasma-induced stress was estimated by conventional cultivation,sub-lethal injury assay, resazurin assay and LIVE/DEAD BacLight BacterialViability kit. Treated bacteria partly lost ability to grow precisely and became injured and cultivable or even morphologically intact(viable/active) but non-culturable (VBNC/ABNC).Formation of damaged membranes was observed through propidium iodide, which labels only
