Detection of membrane damages in Escherichia coli after plasma treatment

  • Original language description

Předneseno na:5th International Conference on Plasma Medicine,Nara, JP,18.05.-23.05.2014 Non-thermal atmospheric pressure plasma has been widely studied for bio-decontamination properties [1].Plasma produces various chemical and physical processes whichcontribute to inactivation or death of bacteria. The processes potentially involved in plasma biodecontamination are heat, electric field,UV radiation, and direct chemical reactions of neutralnreactive species and interactions of charged particles with cellular components [2].However,nthe mechanisms of inactivation caused by plasma are not fully understood because of thencomplexity of both the plasma and biological systems.nOur aim was to investigate the plasma-induced inactivation of Escherichia coli in liquid with a particular emphasis on the mechanism by which the plasma affects cell membrane integrity.nThe atmospheric pressure plasma jet (APPJ) generated in direct contact with the bacterialnsuspension was used as a plasma source
