The dynamics of individual cytokinins were determined in the cells and in the cultivation medium during the subculture interval of cell suspension cultures of Nicotiana tabacum L., line VBI-0. The amounts of cytokinins detected in the cultivation mediumwere less than 1 pmol . ml-1 of suspension. In the late stationary phase the level of isopentenyladenosine, as well as that of dihydrozeatin and its riboside, significantly increased. However, when expressed per cell number, the maximum levels of zeatin-and isopentenyladenine-type cytokinins in both cells and medium appeared at the beginning of subculture interval and then gradually decreased. During the whole subcultivation period cytokinins were excreted from the cells and their concentrations in thecultivation medium were found to be approximately in proportion to their momentary levels inside the cells.
