Thrombolytic therapy with intravenous rt-PA in mild acute stroke patients: Analysis of sits registry data
Original language description
Mild ischemic stroke severity is the most common reason for exclusion from thrombolytic treatment at the time of emergency department evaluation because of worry of a poor outcome and a potential risk of intracerebral hemorrhage. Previous studies suggest that up to 43% of ischemic stroke patients are not treated with intravenous recombinant tissue plasminogen activator (rt-PA) because of mild or rapidly improving symptoms. Also, the use of rt-PA is not recommended in current medical license and guidelines for these ischemic stroke patients because of an uncertain risk-benefit ratio. In contrast, recent studies demonstrate that up to one third of these patients dies or are permanently disabled. study objective was to evaluate safety and effectiveness of intravenous thrombolysis (IVT) in mild ischemic stroke patients with National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale score (NIHSS) less than 5
