The Cult of Saints in Pilgrim Songs in Moravia and Austrian Silesia from the 17th to the Mid-19th Century
Original language description
The paper focuses on songs related to pilgrim places dedicated to saints in Moravia and Austrian Silesia from the 17th to the mid-19th century. There are only few songs about saints comparing to the large quantities of Marian pilgrim songs from Baroque Moravia, despite the occurence of a number of pilgrim places dedicated to saints in Moravia. We can explain this fact by a huge popularity of Marian pilgrimages in Moravia (also pilgrimages to popular places abroad). The preserved songs rather indicates the local and regional popularity of pilgrimages to places dedicated to saints. The discussed hymnographical material especially comes from chapbooks ('kramářské písně') but also from some pilgrim books.
