The Pupils´ Competition in Physics

This paper describes results of competition in Physics for pupils of upper secondary schools (ages from 15 to 18) prepared by the Faculty of Science of University of Ostrava in the Czech Republic. The aim of this activity was to motivate pupils to studyat Faculty of Science. The competition consisted of a quiz and some experiments. About 165 pupils took part in these activities. The tasks of the quiz are presented below. The first three tasks of the quiz dealt with the force of 1 N in different situations. The fourth task was focused on the boiling point of water. The fifth task was focused on the free fall. The last task was an experiment - try to lay a coin on water surface. Some pupils? misconceptions were found by analysing their answers. These misconceptions can be correct
