Original language description
Ditrichum ditrichoideum is a rare and widely scattered species in southern Chile, known from the Magallanes, Aisén, Los Lagos and Valparaiso Regions (Ochyra and Deguchi 1999; Müller 2009). In the former it was known only from Ultima Esperanza Province (Matteri 1985) and herein it is recorded for the first time from Brunswick Peninsula in Magallanes Province. Outside South America, the species is infrequent on Deception Island in the maritime Antarctic (Ochyra and Lewis Smith 1998) and on subantarctic islands in the Kerguelen Biogeographical Province (Ochyra and Poulsen 2003; Ochyra, Lewis Smith, et al. 2008; Ellis, Afonina, Andriamiarisoa, et al. 2018).
