The first chapter of the book on the Janacek Philharmonic Orchestra (The contribution) discusses Ostrava symphonic concerts before the emergence of the Ostrava Symphonic Orchestra (today JFO) in 1954. At these concerts visiting orchestras from Prague, Vienna or Olomouc have performed, as well as domestic semiprofessional bodies of the Germans from Ostrava (in the period before 1945), eg. the opera orchestra Deutsches Theater, and Czech orchestras (the opera orchestra of the National Moravian-Silesian Theatre conducted by Jaroslav Vogl, Pešat's Philharmonic etc.).
