    Pedagogical diagnostics are firmly rooted in nursery school upbringing and education. They are closely connected with educational individualization arising from the Education Act and the Framework Educational Programme for Preschool Education. These objectives involve the need to accept preschool children’s natural development features and project them into the contents, forms and methods of their education. We focused our research on the application of pedagogical diagnostics by nursery school teachers in the course of the day. We approached nursery school managers, headmistresses and senior teachers. We determined how they ensured pedagogical diagnostics in the tions of their nursery schools, which allowed us to find out, assess and evaluate the positive and negative aspects of the educational process and see whether the developmental steps in the upbringing and education relate to expectations, objectives in the school educational programme and the preschool education goals. The research outcomes revealed that nursery school managers view the diagnostics as beneficial in achieving the educational goals determined by the school education programme Pedagogická diagnostika má své pevné místo i v oblasti výchovy a vzdělávání v mateřské škole. Velmi úzce souvisí s individualizací vzdělávání, která vyplývá jak z cílů školského zákona, tak z Rámcového vzdělávacího programu pro předškolní vzdělávání. Tyto cíle ukládají potřebu akceptovat přirozená vývojová specifika dětí předškolního věku a následně je promítat do obsahu, forem a metod jejich vzdělávání. V našem výzkumu jsme zaměřili pozornost na důvody a druhy uplatňování pedagogické diagnostiky učitelkou v průběhu dne v mateřské škole.
