Application of industrial iron and steel metallurgy waste in geopolymer systems
Original language description
The question of environmental protection in the process of production of construction materials has received a lot of attention lately. It is possible to contribute significantly to minimization of possible industrial effects on environment by using byproducts that are often uselessly deposited at waste dumps. The mining of natural raw materials is justifiably more and more expensive. The byproducts, especially from energy and metallurgy industries, are very precious secondary raw materials with very useful properties. In spite of this, in construction, we still mostly use traditional bonding materials, based on portland cement clinker that significantly strain our environment - especially by releasing of large amounts of carbon oxide into the air during slops of clinker and primarily by energy demands during production. This contribution deals with possibilities of utilization of large volumes of iron and steel metallurgy waste in geopolymer systems.
