Jablunkov Tunnel Collapse
Original language description
Jablunkov tunnel is located on the newly renovated track through Jablunkov Pass in the Czech Republic close to the Slovak border. The original tunnel was built In 1870. The second tunnel was opened in 1917. An English modified method of excavation was used for the construction. During the 2nd World War both the tunnels were damaged. The old single-track tunnel will be re-built to a new modern two-track tunnel. There are very complicated geological conditions, and the safety of both the tunnels is no longer satisfactory. One of the single-track tunnels was extended by about 6 m. The total width of the tunnel is 12,6 m. and the tunnel length is 600 m. Excavations were carried out in accordance with the NATM excavation method. Profiles were divided into atop heading and a bench. During the excavation of the bench, the primary lining collapsed. The main cause was a marked change in rock mass quality. The article focuses mainly on modelling the effects of changes in the rock mass.
