    Temperature dependent properties of materials used to create sliding joint in the foundation structure

  • Original language description

    The application of a sliding joint in a foundation structure is an effective method to reduce the effect of horizontal deformation of the foundation. These can arise from effect of undermining or from shrinkage or creep of concrete. A different materialcan be used to create a sliding joint, but some are more advantageous than others. An asphalt belt appears to be the most advantageous material. Different types of asphalt belts are tested at the Faculty of Civil Engineering under different loads and atdifferent temperatures. The effect of ambient temperature is monitored primarily for a better description of temperature dependency of asphalt belts. Other relations are derived from results of tests, and test results are also used for numerical modeling. The long-term goal of this research is to simplify the process of designing buildings with a sliding joint.
