THE EXTERIOR GREEN WALLS AND THEIR PERSPECTIVE IN HIGH DENSITY PARTS OF URBAN AREA

  • Original language description

The greenery absence is one of the current problems of the central parts in urban area not only in Czech Republic. Simultaneously, the urban greenery is important not only for human well-being, but also fulfills a number of ecological functions for the urban area. It can be expected that this problem - greenery absence - in urban space will become more important in the future, while the placement of new elements of green infrastructure here is already practically impossible. This is mainly caused by the historical development of individual cities, which central areas are compact. However, even in this space, greenery can be applied to take advantage of the potential which is offered. Current trends in this area include, for example, the construction of green roofs, grass paving, roadside bioswales, exterior green vertical structures. Exactly, it is exterior green vertical structures (green walls, mobile green walls, hanging gardens) that represent a number of advantages, for example they require minimal occupation of space, correspond to modern trends in architectural design of urban space and can be attractive and representative. At the same time, they can also have positive impact to local environmental conditions, such as reducing noise and dust, temperature stress and providing a source of food for pollinators. These artificial ecosystems provide urban ecosystem services. This article deals with the issues of exterior green vertical structures (classification, location, design solutions, etc.). Main goal is based on the idea of green acupuncture. From environmental point of view, it is important and perspective to use green infrastructure inside core of urban area, especially to climate resilience.
