THE EXTERIOR GREEN WALLS: THEIR POTENTIAL AND AWARENESS OF GENERAL PUBLIC IN THE CZECH REPUBLIC
Original language description
This article is focused on the issue of the usage of exterior green walls in the conditions of Central European cities, especially in the Czech Republic, and presents the perception of this issue by the general public. Placing the green infrastructure in densely built urban centers, increases their attractiveness not only from the point of view of visitors but also to change the perception of the atmosphere in urban space by their inhabitants and users. In addition, exterior green walls are space-saving elements of green infrastructure and thus offer opportunities for wider use in city cores. These can be, for example, green walls, mobile green walls, hanging gardens, which correspond to modern trends in architectural design of urban space and can be representative too. Due to the specific conditions of cities in the Czech Republic, they are not widely used yet. In the Czech Republic, we practically do not face challenges with large cities (f.e. megalopolis). Although even in historic cities, where greenery was a necessary and traditional part of public space (given by historical progression) and in urban centers, greenery is currently gradually replaced by surfaces which reduce the climate resilience of cities. One of the reasons may also be the fact that the exterior green walls do not seem to find a completely adequate response in the awareness of the general public. The aim of the research was to find out the perception of green walls by the inhabitants of cities in the Czech Republic based on a questionnaire survey, which was carried out in 2020. To solve one of the problem questions was used binary analysis and another problem question used multidimensional data analysis. For these purposes were created parameters RAICE (respondents' awareness of the importance of green walls in the city environment) and its analysis showed that respondents prefer to increase the attractiveness of the place as the importance of green walls. In general, respondents are unaware of the importance of green walls for other components of the urban environment. Influencing the atmosphere of the place itself by realizing green walls is a positive impact, but far from the only and not the most important.
