Integration of atypical intersections into street space

  • Original language description

Transport and mobility of the population is one of the most important elements of everyday life in today's society. The quality of the transport network determines the proper functioning of the area. Junctions are an essential element of the road network, especially those with an unconventional arrangement. Depending on the location, a suitable arrangement of the intersection area in the landscape or in the public space of the urban area is chosen. A more demanding activity is the incorporation of transport infrastructure in the area of cities and municipalities, as there is a clash of different users of public space, and roads also fulfil a residential function in addition to transport functions. The problematic elements are often the cramped space and the location of the technical infrastructure, which significantly limit the possibilities of building layout and composition of the street space. The character of public spaces significantly determines the quality of life in the area. The potential of the street space lies in the use for residential function and comfortable integration of pedestrian and non-motorized transport, provided that the required offer for motorized transport is maintained. It is desirable to properly interlace the street parterre of greenery. The coexistence of all modes of transport, including pedestrians, is proportional to human perception of the quality of the city's public space. Crossing the streets often creates spatial anomalies that need to be addressed and designed specifically. At junctions with a curved priority, the special character is enhanced by a particular transport organization. The aim of the design of intersections in accordance with the conceptual development of the city is to ensure the safety and fluidity of all types of transport demand, while it is desirable to ensure a quality form of architectural detail.
