Original language description
A system of functions, variational in sense of the well-known Helmholtz conditions, is used as an external force with the aim to control trajectories of a mechanical system. Prescribing a concrete trajectory or its component, an explicit form of the corresponding control force is determined using a variational structure of the equations of motion. As an example, the inverted pendulum cart in two dimensions is discussed.
