Fire water: management system in Czech Republic
Original language description
Fire water refers to water that has been occurred at firefighting and requires containment area and sequential liquidation. In many cases it is a polluted material with high level of risk for the environment. In case of major fire, especially in SEVESO establishment, large quantities of water remain after the fire has been extinguished. The fire water contains materials present in the facility with dangerous substance and sur-roundings and also contains dissolved and particulate materials from combustion processes and materials gen-erated through extinguishing. Contaminated fire water releasing into a river or the other water source presents major impact to the environment. Fire water containment is one of the safety precautions that can be imple-mented in SEVESO establishment as a tool of major accident prevention in compliance with environmental policy according to ISO 14001. One of the recognized techniques is to contain the fire water in the drainage system which can be activated either automatically or manually. This paper is focused on fire water manage-ment system in SEVESO establishments in Czech Republic with special attention to used methods for testing of fire water ecotoxicity.
